Reconstruction - Medieval Inlaid Tiles
We also conduct a great deal of research into reconstruction, looking at
floor and wall tile techniques, materials and coatings in particular. It was
for this reason that we were asked to reproduce the original inlay artisan
floor tiles for All Saints’ Church on North Street in York, the originals of
which were made in the 14 th century. We also reproduce stone tiles
made in various patterns between the industrial revolution and the Art
Nouveau period across Europe and North America.
The mission of Pataki Tiles is to leave its mark on our built environment by exclusive construction projects. Based upon the techniques of former masters, we apply our modern knowledge and creativity to help saving the values of the past – in order to fill in the spaces with more and more wonderful stories.
Although the Medieval tiles were created as part of a reconstruction project, the suggestive power of archaic patterns excels in modern spaces as well, whether monumental or intimate. From the hundreds of samples we collected, we created the following sample set updated with colour and size variations
