The story

The famous institution in West End was opened in 1867 by the chef of Napoleon III, Mr. Kettner.

Popular with historical figures and creatives throughout its 149-year history, King Edward VII is said to have courted here his mistress, actress Lillie Langtry who run from the restaurant to the tunnel leading to the theater hall of the palace, The lounge and Champagne Bar have welcomed visitors including Sir Winston Churchill, Agatha Christie, Oscar Wilde, Bing Crosby and Margaret Thatcher.

It was closed in 2016 before the Soho House Group renewed it and reopened it in early 2018.

The 33-bedroom hotel’s restaurant is only open to Soho House members and hotel guests, while the Champagne Bar is open to the general public.

While re-dreaming of Kettner’s hotel, the designer team at Soho House Group asked us to create bathroom covers for all the 33 apartments. Four types of designs have been built, and in addition to the very bright and ashy colours, we have created more characteristic backlit glazed ceramics with uniquely structured lace motifs.

The Georgian house preserved its original Georgian-style wooden flooring and ceiling, with its soft-toned floral ceramic tiles responding to William Morris wallpapers.

In addition to its unparalleled art collection, Kettner’s has a first-class large suite with original mahogany furniture and a large four-poster bed. To create a luxurious spa, we have designed lace-plated ash-like green matt ceramic. The suite’s spa, with its uniquely designed and manufactured freestanding bathtub and waterfall shower, has become a privileged spot within the house.
