Reconstruction

Pataki Tiles is also involved in monument restoration projects, where selected artisan specialists combine old methods with modern technology to create original, high-quality products and develop innovative solutions.

In our reconstruction department we have revived long-forgotten skills and expertise in order to guarantee that the work of mediaeval masters is authentically reproduced.

From the recording the pattern right through to the colour lab, every single process is an important element in the reconstruction of the original ceramic tile.

We reproduce various shapes, patterns and surfaces from the mediaeval period through to the industrial revolution and the Art Nouveau period. Where possible, we use original materials, from grout to glaze, and employ original pressing techniques when making Mettlach stone floor tiles. Where necessary, during the firing process we give the glaze a distressed finish using various metallic salts in order to reproduce the historical material’s original patina.
